About the CPD course
This course assesses recent developments in new and proposed methods of payment from a monetarist perspective. Where did the impetus for cryptocurrencies come from? How do they work? What is their appeal? What is their relationship to conventional "fiat" currencies? Do they satisfy all the conditions to be regarded as money? In addition; the course considers the future prospects for Central Bank Digital Currencies; including whether they are likely to supersede cash and how they might affect the functioning of the commercial banking sector and central banks in the future.
The purpose of the Institute of International Monetary Research is to demonstrate and bring to public attention the strong relationship between the quantity of money on the one hand, and the levels of national income and expenditure on the other.
