This online training session; developed by the Southern Universities Network (SUN); is designed to provide an overview and insight into Widening Participation and how practitioners can support and encourage it. Its designed to: Introduce what Widening Participation is and why its needed. Consider what some of the barriers may be for underrepresented groups progressing on to higher education. Raise awareness of what higher education institutions and partners are doing to try to address the gap in progression to higher education from underrepresented groups. Consider the relevance to schools and how they may be able to support the Widening Participation agenda.

The Southern Universities Network (SUN) is a collaborative partnership, providing higher education outreach activities for schools and colleges across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. It is part of Uni Connect, an Office for Students-funded national programme, offering activities, advice, and information on the benefits and realities of going to university.
The SUN offers workshops, events and activities to support and inspire young people to consider their future educational pathways and options. The SUN also offers an accredited programme of CPD to upskill education professionals and to enhance their knowledge and confidence in providing support to young people.
