Surgical Skills Lab: Acumed upper limb fracture fixation course: Nurse masterclass

This course will cover the use and indications of the Acumed upper limb portfolio; including; Distal radius; Elbow; Humerus and Clavicle; from the theatre nurse’s perspective. This comprehensive upper limb fracture fixation system has a multitude of options to address all upper limb fractures; from the very simple to the complex. The participants will be theatre nurses and will be guided through basic upper limb anatomy addressed by the plating system and the prevalence of upper limb fractures in the population. This will enable the scrub team to understand what the surgeon must consider when managing the fracture before and at the time of operation and how the scrub team can aid this process. A deep dive into the surgical techniques of fracture fixation using the Acumed upper limb portfolio will be provided by a consultant surgeon; and the scrub team’s perspective will be given by a theatre lead nurse with experience in Acumed systems. The delivery will be lectures followed by a workshop in which participants get the chance to practice what they have learnt. This will be aided by Acumed staff; Orthopaedic Consultant and Operating Theatre Lead Nurse.
