10 Oct 2017

About the event

Endometriosis is a relatively common gynaecological condition which affects 5-10% of the general female population. It is known to increase the possibility of infertility. Whilst distortion to pelvic anatomy may explain reduced fertility; the mechanisms in early endometriosis are not clearly understood. The management options include surgery for endometriosis; intrauterine insemination and assisted reproductive technology (IVF/ICSI). Endometriosis and its surgical treatment may affect chances of success with IVF/ICSI treatment and a number of factors including the woman's age; previous surgery; ovarian reserve and presence/absence of pain symptoms will need to be taken into account when management decisions are made.
