About the event
The aim of this 1-day masterclass is to give individuals the confidence and skills to handle a variety of different media interviews, from local newspapers to national TV news. The demands of the media have changed dramatically in just the last five years. 24-hours news is a “beast” that requires constant “feeding” and health stories form a big part of its “diet”. Why? Because everyone is affected by their health or the health of someone they know, whether the story is about childhood obesity, diabetes or a crisis in A&E departments.Making the most of the media in good times and bad comes down to understanding how journalists work and what they’re after, as well as how they also differ - print journalists, for example, operate very differently from TV reporters, and that can have a huge impact on how an interviewee reacts and performs.Reputations that have taken years to establish can be destroyed in seconds when a spokesperson says the wrong thing to a journalist and that can dramatically affect an organisation’s ability operate, the morale of its staff, as well as its “bottom line”.This practical course gives delegates the chance to see how prepared they are and learn the “tricks of the trade” for when journalists come calling.
